Ⅰ Introduction.  

In 2003, the Department of Finance of the School of Economics applied for the insurance major on the basis of the financial insurance module course. This application was approved by the Ministry of Education. In 2004, it began to recruit undergraduates majoring in insurance. After graduating, most students chose to engage in insurance, banking, securities and other financial industries. And those people received high recognition from their employers, which reflects the applicability of insurance major. Making use of the advantages of the comprehensive university and relying on the strong disciplines of economics and management of the School of Economics and Management, insurance major cultivates advanced application-oriented insurance talents with high operational skills and understanding of management who can work in the insurance industry as well as in industrial and commercial enterprises. This can meet the needs of China's insurance industry opening to the outside world. The insurance major has excellent staff for teaching basic courses and a professional team characterized by “double high and one low” (high professional titles, high academic qualifications, and low age). Supplemented by modern teaching methods and professional laboratory teaching, this major adopts the "open" teaching and "practical" personnel training mode, so as to achieve the teaching goal of "wide caliber and thick foundation” as planned.     

Ⅱ. Training Objectives

Based on the reality of China's insurance reform and development, the talent training of insurance faces the process of insurance globalization to cultivate versatile talents with thick foundation and wide caliber. Meet the diversified and multi-level needs of social and economic development for insurance talents through deepening the teaching reform and improving schooling quality. Insurance major cultivates compound insurance talents possessing a solid theoretical foundation of economics, finance and insurance and knowing well about the basic knowledge and skills of modern finance and insurance. Students can be able to engage in education, management and consulting, professional teaching and research in insurance services at economic and financial management companies, insurance companies, foreign trade companies, risk analysis and management departments of enterprises and institutions, insurance management departments, insurance education and research units. It also cultivates professional talents who are qualified to continue to study for a higher degree (or engage in academic research) in educational and scientific institutions at home and abroad.                                                                                                                                                                 Ⅲ. Training requirements

On the basis of mastering basic economics, finance and insurance analysis paradigms and tools, this major cultivates students to master the ability of analyzing and processing information in insurance industry. It is mainly reflected in the following aspects:1. Knowledge Requirements

(1)Professional Knowledge

Firmly grasp the basic knowledge, theory and skills of this major. Students should not only master the basic principles of economics and management, but also fully understand the frontier of insurance theory and the current situation of practical development, and be familiar with the basic process of insurance activities.      

(2)Instrumental Knowledge

Proficient in a foreign language, with strong foreign language reading, listening, speaking, writing and translation skills; Proficient in using computers to engage in business work; Proficient in using modern information management technology for professional literature retrieval, data processing, model design, etc. Proficient in using professional databases to write professional papers and research reports.      

(3) Knowledge in other Related Fields

Insurance talents should also understand knowledge in other related fields and form a balanced knowledge structure combining humanities and social sciences, natural sciences, engineering and technical sciences.      

2. Quality Requirements

(1) Ideological and moral quality

Efforts should be made to study Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought and the theoretical system of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and establish the common ideal and firm belief of taking the road of socialism with Chinese characteristics and realizing national prosperity under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. Abide by the Constitution, laws and regulations, and citizens' moral standards. Abide by the "Code of Conduct for Students for College students" and the school management system. They should have good moral quality and civilized habits.  Advocate socialist core values, establish a sense of honesty, fulfill the commitment and keep the promise, and unify knowing and doing. Cultivate good professional conduct and professional ethics, and have a sense of social responsibility and humanistic care.      

(2) Physical and mental quality

They should have a healthy body and reach the standards of physical training. They should have good psychological quality, strong self-control and self-regulation ability.      

(3) Scientific and cultural quality 

They should have certain scientific knowledge and scientific literacy. Have certain literary, artistic accomplishment and appreciation ability. Have a certain understanding of traditional culture and history. 

(4) Professional quality.

Possess thinking of insurance major and strong awareness of discipline. Be familiar with the national insurance guidelines, policies, laws and regulations, and understand the development trends of insurance at home and abroad.      

3. Ability Requirements                  

 (1) Ability to acquire knowledge                         

Able to master effective learning methods and take the initiative to receive lifelong education. They can apply modern scientific and technological means for autonomous learning. Adopt to the objective situation of rapid development of insurance theory and practice and keep pace with the times.      

(2) Ability of practical application.   

Be able to flexibly put the professional knowledge into insurance practice activities. Be able to screen, sort out and process all kinds of insurance information at home and abroad, thus providing countermeasures and suggestions for the government, enterprises, insurance and financial institutions to solve practical problems. Able to use professional theoretical knowledge and modern economic research methods and certain scientific research ability should be had. 

(3) Innovation and entrepreneurship ability

They should not only have innovative consciousness, but also have innovative ability and entrepreneurial ability. Be able to spot the development trend of insurance, apply what you have learned and then creatively solve practical insurance problems Have professional sensitivity, dare to innovate in the fierce market competition and international competition, and be good at innovation.      

(4) Other Abilities.  

Skilled in Chinese writing; have some abilities in speaking and writing, communication, organization and coordination, team cooperation, and other abilities needed to adapt to changes of insurance market.       

Ⅳ. Core courses

The courses of this major include insurance, corporate finance, personal insurance, property insurance, risk management, actuarial science and investment.

Ⅴ. Duration: Four years

Students can shorten or extend their length of study according to their specific conditions, and the length of study is three to six years.

General elective theory courses

General requirements

It includes humanities and arts (including art-based elective courses), social sciences and behavioral sciences, natural sciences and modern science and technology, biological sciences and medicine, employment and entrepreneurship and national defense education (including employment guidance, entrepreneurial education limited elective courses, as well as listening, speaking, reading, writing and other special skills courses), comprehensive courses (experiments). Study Requirements: Minimum 12 credits and maximum 4 credits for each type of course, including 1 limited elective course for art, 1 limited elective course for employment guidance and 1 limited elective course for entrepreneurship education.

Professional requirements

Students should choose courses according to their own interests.

General elective practice course

It includes general education lectures, employment and entrepreneurship training, off-campus social practice, volunteer service, etc., and is arranged in a centralized practice week. Study Requirements: Minimum 6 credits.
